I want to enjoy the moment: AR Rahman

Celebrated composer and the first Indian to be nominated to the Oscars for original music score, A R Rahman, on Thursday (January 22) said he wanted to savour the moment and not worry about the future. "There is still a month to go for the awards," Rahman said when asked if he was confident of winning. "I want to enjoy the moment and not think of the future," he said.

Expressing happiness at being nominated, Rahman said he felt good that the music of the film was well received in the West. "These are good positive vibes." The composer said there was no special celebration for him. "I am busy mixing the music of 'Delhi 6'. I am a musician and I have commitments to keep," he said.

Rahman has received two nominations in the Original Song category along with Gulzar for 'Jai Ho' and 'O Saya' with Maya Arulpragasam. The music director said 'Slumdog Millionaire' was his favourite film as it portrayed reality with a sense of optimism. 'Slumdog' has been nominated for the Oscars in ten different categories including Best Picture and Best Director among others.

Actor Irrfan Khan, who plays a police inspector in the film, said, "Even though 'Slumdog' is a UK film with a British director, the story is Indian." Khan expressed happiness that talent from the country was being recognised. The film releases in India on January 23.

Rahman said the inspiration for his musical score which has won him international recognition came from the film "Slumdog Millionaire" itself. The versatile music composer said he did not think that he had even one per cent change to hit the international stage when he made his debut in the Indian film industry.

He said the fact that "Slumdog Millionaire" got ten Oscar nominations was a "nice lesson" on how honours can be achieved through collaboration. Rahman also acknowledged lyricist Gulzar's contribution to his musical score.
